IOCL /NALCO to foray into nuclear power

Indian Oil Corp, which has already invested in wind power is planning to venture into nuclear power. It has received an in-principle approval from its board to sign an agreement with Nuclear Power Corp of India Ltd (NPCIL). It may invest from 26% to 49% in NPCIL projects of Kakrapar, Kudankulam or Jaitapur plant in Maharashtra. It may be noted, the company has also joined hands with Tata Power to set up thermal plants. The above moves will make IOCL, an integrated energy company. NALCO another public sector company is also in talks with NPCIL to invest in nuclear projects. While NALCO and IOCL may be just investors, NTPC has signed a deal with NPCIL to become a nuclear power player in its own right.
