International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Council which met on July 2010 has approved the baseline cost and overall schedule of the project. The nuclear fusion project is jointly set up by Europe, China, Japan, South Korea, Russia and the US to generate power using nuclear fusion (as it happens in sun). Such an attempt if ends in success will result in generation of inexhaustible source of power and the project cost has gone up from Euro 5.9 billion in 2006 to Euro 15 billion . India on its part will be involved which has a share of 9% in costs. The project is likely to be built with contributions from countries in form of components and services.
