L&T may garner more business in Indian nuclear programme

With India expecting to add 60000 MW over the next two decades, L&T the Indian engineering major expects to garner around Rs.40,000 to Rs.60,000 million worth of contract every year from nuclear power equipments, forgings and reactors. With this in mind, L&T has signed various technical agreements with global nuclear power players like GE Hitachi, Atomstroyexport (ASE), part of Rosatom of Russia; Toshiba Westinghouse of the US and Atomic Energy of Canada (AEC). It may be noted, L&T has experience in Indian nuclear power programme right from Tarapur power plant in 1974 to the recent Kudankulam nuclear plant. The company is also setting up a nuclear equipment forging shop at Hazira which will be ready by 2011.

Larsen and Toubro s pact with Atomstroyexport for nuclear technology

Larsen & Toubro has signed a MoU with Atomstroyexport of Russia for design of VVER 1000 nuclear reactors. This MoU will address the need for cooperation and address the need for equipment for Kudankulam nuclear reactors and new nuclear projects. L&T is already playing a significant role in pressurized heavy water reactors in India. This deal also helps L&T to advance its technology to manufacture components for VVER reactors in future.

GE Hitachi signs with Nuclear Power Corp and BHEL for nuclear reactors


GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy has signed the initial agreement with Nuclear Power Corporation and BHEL to build reactors here. The three companies will collaborate to build advanced boiling water reactor (ABWR). After this initial agreement, they will proceed with techno-commerical aspects. It may be noted, NPC is also in talks with Westinghouse Electric Company for AP-1000 reactors and with Russian Atomstroyexport for VVER-1000 reactors. The nuclear reactor market is estimated at USD 175 billion.

L&T signs pact with Canadian major AECL for nuclear technology


Subject to Indo-Canada agreement and approval from Indian government, L&T in joint-venture with AECL for setting up nuclear reactors in India. The deal also explores possibility of co-operation to exploit global opportunities in the field of nuclear power. It may be noted, L&T has also signed deal with Toshiba Westinghouse of USA.
